Diane: An Active Life

One of the people we support

Being independent is important to Diane. She lives on her own in a neat home that she renovated with help from her family, in an area where the neighbors offer to shovel your sidewalk in the winter and water your grass in the summer. She walks to work, cares for her longhaired dachshund “Tux,” and enjoys babysitting for her nieces when she can.

Even though she does many things on her own, Diane still likes to stay in touch with old friends-many of whom she’s met through the St. Louis Arc’s leisure programs. “I like to stay active,” says Diane. “I’ve been playing sports since I was about nine years old.” Throughout the year, Diane participates on Arc softball, soccer and basketball teams, and she frequently attends dances and other social activities to see people she hasn’t seen in a while. “There are just a lot of people I like to see, people from my teams, some from back in school,” she says. “When I’m in the leisure programs, I’m more active and I do stuff that’s more fun!”
