LaWanda and Jalise: Balancing Family Needs

Family schedules can be hectic and adding early intervention therapy into the mix can be a challenge for any parent. LaWanda, the busy mom of three young girls, chose St. Louis Arc’s in-home therapy through Childgarden Child Development Center for her daughter, Jalise, who had shown some developmental delays. Speech, developmental, occupational and physical therapists came to the family’s home each week to work with Jalise, her mom and her grandmother, who helps care for her.
“The home sessions worked great for us,” said LaWanda. In-home therapy has advantages in addition to flexible scheduling and convenience, because families can be more involved on a regular basis and can incorporate the therapy into their daily routines. Today, Jalise is laughing, smiling, walking, and ready to attend her local preschool with her sisters.
Childgarden is a joint venture of the St. Louis Arc and Easter Seals.
