Angalyn and Jordan: Parenting to Grow On

One of the people we support

Two-year-old Jordan knows his ABCs and can count all the way to 15, says his mom, Angalyn. “We count the steps up to our apartment,” Angalyn explains, “so that’s how he learned to count that far.” While Angalyn talks about her son, Jordan plays happily with the other children who have accompanied their parents to a weekly session of the St. Louis Arc’s Parents Learning Together (PLT) program.

“Jordan loves songs and he picks up on things after only one time,” gushes Angalyn proudly. “Here, they say you should talk to him, so I do that a lot.” Through PLT, Angalyn says she’s learned how to encourage her child’s health and development as well as handle the basics of safety, nutrition, and household management---all of which have helped to make her a better parent to little Jordan. Each week, a PLT educator visits with the family to go over the topics introduced in class and to provide special mentoring and guidance--helping Angalyn give Jordan the kind of nurturing every child needs to grow.
