Training Class Descriptions

American Red Cross Adult CPR Training: Learn the proper response skills for adult victims of cardiac arrest, choking and respiratory emergencies. Participant must pass a written test and demonstrate satisfactory skills to receive certification card valid for one year. $35 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

CPR Challenge: Participants who need to renew their CPR certifications have a one-time option to attend this brief overview of the basics of CPR. Participants have the opportunity to “test out” of the regular training course. $25 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

First Aid: Learn how to best respond to emergency and life-threatening situations. Certification valid for three years. $20 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

Medication Administration, Parts 1-3: Upon completion of this class, participants will be certified to administer medications. Participant must pass a practicum and written test. This course meets DMH guidelines. $75 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

Medication Update: To keep Med Level 1 certification current, participants must go through this refresher course at least every two years. The Class meets DMRDD guidelines and includes a test. This class also gives an overview of the St. Louis Arc’s forms and medication processes and is required for new St. Louis Arc employees who are currently certified. $35 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

Outcomes Parts 1 & 2: Participants will learn to use the The Council on Quality and Leadership’s Accreditation Outcomes as guidelines for providing the best possible support to people who use services of the St. Louis Arc. $35 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

Preventing, Recognizing, and Reporting Abuse and Neglect: Participants will gain a better understanding of the definition of Abuse and Neglect and how to prevent it from occurring. Participants will become familiar with indicators of abuse and neglect and of the protocol for reporting it. $30 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

Rights: Participants will learn the meaning of rights and restrictions, and how to support people in advocating for their rights. $30 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

Positive Behavior Supports: Participants will learn positive techniques to help people modify behavior that is impacting their quality of life. Emphasis is placed on identifying and analyzing targeted behavior and helping people learn alternatives. $40 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

Person-Centered Planning Facilitation and Writing: This training is designed for anyone who facilitates person-centered planning and/or writes plans. Participants learn how to use personal outcomes in the planning process, how to prepare and conduct an effective planning meeting, how to develop a comprehensive person-centered plan document, and how to ensure meaningful followup to the plan. $40 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.

New Employee Training: Includes a agency-wide and departmental overview of policies and procedures of the St. Louis Arc, information on the agency, our philosophy of service delivery, and basic health and safety information, including the Blood-Borne Pathogens/Universal Precautions In-Service and tuberculosis screening. Participants will also complete personnel paperwork and get information on benefits. This training is only available to employees of the St. Louis Arc.

Person Centered Philosophy Training: This training focuses on supporting the belief that everyone can be a part of the community at large and emphasizes using a holistic approach in providing services. $30 fee if not employed by the St. Louis Arc.
