Supporting People with Developmental Disabilities and Their Families Since 1950

Community Involvement

Please note: The Neighborhood Experiences Project and Teens in Motion are primarily funded by the Productive Living Board for St. Louis County Citizens with Developmental Disabilities. However, other funding is available on a limited basis to persons living outside of St. Louis County. The Rec Connect (also known as Individualized Supports) program offers individualized options for people who live in St. Louis County only.

Neighborhood Experiences and Teens In Motion

The Neighborhood Experiences Project provides youth who have developmental disabilities, ages 16 to 20, with the support they need to obtain summer volunteer and work experiences that will help them achieve their own personal and career goals. Through the project, each young person works with a staff partner to learn, have fun, and make a difference!

For younger teens, ages 13 to 15, there's Teens in Motion.  Like Neighborhood Experiences, Teens in Motion will provide fun volunteer and leisure experiences in the community, while also focusing on preparing for future employment and identifying vocational and leisure interests for younger participants.  (Teens in Motion is available to age 20, if appropriate).

In Summer 2011, the Neighborhood Experiences Project and Teens in Motion will run from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, from June 6 to July 29, 2011 (8 weeks).  Cost for the summer is $900 plus the $60 application fee.  Scholarship and financial assistance is available.

Rec Connect

Rec Connect
provides assistance to adults, 18 years of age and older, to get involved in their community through volunteering or participating in leisure activities.  It gives people the support they need to take that class, gain skills for future employment, start that exercise program, or meet new people and make friends.  To register for Rec Connect, print, complete and mail our Leisure Registration Form along with any necessary fees, and we will send you confirmation information.
