Dan....

Dan

Dan loves ‘spinning his records,’ following the weather forecast and keeping things neat and tidy. With a collection of nearly 2,600 classic 45’s, Dan is a true music lover, and he often shares his interest with friends at Arc’s Community Integration program.

Dan started taking part in St. Louis Arc’s activities in 1992, when his mother passed away. According to Dan’s family, they were most impressed with how Arc staff members tailor supports to fit Dan’s unique interests and needs, how they encourage him to build his confidence, and how they have enabled him to gain self-reliance and self-determination. “From the first day, they have gone out of their way to create a very nurturing environment, which makes Dan feel at home,” says Dan’s sister Karen.

Dan says he loves every aspect of the life he’s built at the Arc’s Community Integration program and the new interests he’s developed, like bowling, through participation in Arc’s Leisure Services. Dan’s family has also utilized Arc’s Respite services.

Both Karen and his brother Ted say they truly appreciate the manner in which Arc collaborates with Dan and his family in important decisions regarding support and care. “To us, Arc has embodied compassion, professionalism and unequivocal commitment to its clients and their families,” says Ted.
