This October we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) in the United States. This is a time to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities and to educate the public about the value of a diverse workforce. This year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month theme is “#InclusionWorks.” The St. Louis Arc believes strongly in this year’s theme, not just in the month of October, but all year long.
Each year our Employment Services team works diligently to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment goals. Developing a disability can be a life-changing event for any kind of employee; some are even left unable to work and so social security is a lifeline – speaking with the likes of Crest SSD can help these people find out whether they are eligible to apply for benefits. Many people to take out disability insurance to ensure that they can be financially covered in the event that this did happen. If this is something that interests you, you might want to have a look at a long term disability information walkthrough for more information. During our last fiscal year, the St. Louis Arc supported 88 individuals as they found employment. From national corporations to hometown businesses, employers throughout St. Louis are hiring employees with disabilities to fill open positions. When a company hires an Arc participant they see many benefits, such as:
